The Handset Based Console - a successful addition to Sepura’s product portfolio
Sepura’s latest mobile radio equipment option, the Handset Based Console (HBC), launched in May 2009, is already attracting considerable levels of interest from a variety of public safety organisations world-wide.
By combining the functionality of the traditional radio console and telephone handset, the HBC frees up valuable dashboard space in today’s congested emergency vehicles.
The HBC can coexist with legacy analogue equipment on the vehicles’ dashboard, allowing users to retain and operate on their old analogue radio network in areas where TETRA is still being rolled out. Organisations adopting the HBC appreciate the advantage of parallel installations as they are able to deploy their fleet with minimum disruption and enjoy the deriving financial benefits.
Mark Barnby, Product Manager for Sepura said “The HBC has been particularly welcomed by public safety users in Germany thanks to its familiar User Interface (UI). BMW recently decided to adopt the HBC and to provide an additional display of Sepura’s SRG radios screen on the Blue Light menu of its own integrated iDrive system”.
Mr Barnby went on to add “Indeed, one of the Handset Based Console’s key advantages is that its UI is identical to that of all the other Sepura’s radios, which makes it simple and intuitive to use. In addition, it is very easy to install and uninstall making it ideal for those markets that normally lease their public safety vehicles.”
Ambulance Services world-wide are also considering the adoption of the HBC for the rear of their vehicles as it enables paramedics to communicate privately, directly and effectively with the control room. In addition, the HBC’s manageable size doesn’t clutter the already limited space in the back of the ambulances where paramedics provide their invaluable support to the sick and the injured.
